Ferndale Oval Sports Lighting Project Set to Begin

The Shire of Capel is pleased to announce that the Ferndale Oval Sports Lighting Project is officially underway with the advertising of submissions via the Tender process.

This project responds directly to the needs of our local sporting community, who have identified the lack of lighting as a key barrier to training and competition opportunities—particularly during winter and mid-week evenings.

Local sporting clubs that rely on Ferndale Oval, including AFL Masters, Junior AFL and Teeball/Softball groups, have experienced strong growth in membership in recent years. Their strategic planning highlighted the urgent need for adequate sports lighting to support ongoing participation and club development.

To meet these needs, the Shire is delivering a 100-LUX sports lighting upgrade at Ferndale Oval. Once complete, the project will enable evening training and competitions, improve safety, and support the continued growth of local sport in the community.

The Ferndale Oval lighting installation forms part of the Shire’s ongoing commitment to improving recreation and sporting infrastructure across the region.

This project is part of the WA Government’s PlayOn WA, an exciting initiative to deliver 2,030 community infrastructure items across WA by 2030.
