Trails Master Plan
Shire of Capel Trails Master Plan:
The Shire of Capel DRAFT Trails Master Plan (June 2025) updates the 2009 plan to create a contemporary, accessible, sustainable trail network showcasing the region's unique Tuart Forest, rivers, and heritage. The DRAFT Master Plan addresses gaps in maintenance, promotions and marketing, and connectivity through a 10-year staged approach, informed by audits, survey responses, and stakeholder workshops (internal & external).
Eleven existing trails were audited within the Shire of Capel, including our local walk trails (eg. Ironstone Gully Falls, Joshua Lake, Preston River Ramble, Lake Walk, Bushland Walk) and regional DBCA owned trails (e.g., Tuart Discovery Trail, Tuart Walk & 8km section of Munda Biddi). Community feedback has highlighted strong usage for walking (top activity), nature connection, and wellbeing, but rates experiences at 2.3/5 due to poor maintenance, signage, accessibility, and promotion.
16 Proposed opportunities have been highlighted ranging from Cycling to include Bunbury- Busselton Cycle link, Gravel Riding, Mountain Bike Skills Park, Paddle Trails and Wellness Trails.
The Shire seeks your feedback on this draft to refine priorities, feasibility, and implementation. Share thoughts on our existing trails, or new ideas via email at info@capel.wa.gov.au.
Feedback is open from Monday 8th December 2025 to Wednesday 7th January 2026.
