The Shire of Capel has engaged Water Technology to prepare a Foreshore Management Plan (FMP) for Peppermint Grove Beach in an effort to understand the challenges, hazards and potential issues affecting the area. The FMP will outline management options for the those elements previously identified in the Coastal Hazard Risk Management and Adaptation Plan (CHRMAP) prepared for the area.
The CHRMAP was a collaborative project between the Peron Naturaliste Partnership (PNP) and selected member local governments including the City of Bunbury and Shires of Capel, Dardanup and Harvey, in partnership with the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions and Southern Ports Authority to understand how coastal changes, from the Capel to Leschenault coastline, can be best managed into the future.
The Foreshore Management Plan for Peppermint Grove Beach will directly address the area in question and outline various management options moving forward. There will be community consultation and collaboration throughout this project, as the Shire seeks to actively engage all stakeholders and explore solutions to keep the area safe, environmentally and ecologically protected and to address issues associated with climate in the Foreshore Management Plan.

The Shire of Capel is planning for the future of its coastline and is inviting the Peppermint Grove Beach community to have their say. The Shire of Capel has engaged Water Technology to prepare Foreshore Management Plans (FMPs) for Peppermint Grove Beach and Dalyellup Beach. Completion of FMPs is a recommendation of the Shire’s Coastal Hazard Risk Management and Adaptation Plan (CHRMAP). Both FMPs will be prepared in 2026 and will include several community and stakeholder engagement activities.
We all place a high value on our coast. The study areas contain significant coastal assets and the processes that affect these areas are multiple and complex. The recommendations of the FMPs will identify appropriate management within the study areas to foster sustainable recreational and tourism use, whilst recognising and incorporating environmental and traditional cultural values.
The purpose of this survey is to gain an understanding of what you think is important about the Peppermint Grove Beach coastal foreshore (see study area figure below). Your feedback is important. The views you share through this survey will help inform the project. All responses are considered as part of the broader community engagement process and will guide improving management of the foreshore areas. There will be further opportunities to stay involved and provide feedback as the project progresses.
Please note there is a project webpage in the Connect Capel website that includes a participatory mapping portal where you can identify locations of special interest or concern – we encourage you to use this as well as the survey to share information about what you think is important about the Peppermint Grove Beach coastal foreshore.
Thank you for taking the time to share your views.
